What I Believe…

I believe in simple, small government, and liberty.

DECREASE REGULATIONS TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS
Excessive regulations make it hard for small businesses to survive, and compete. Regulations are often favored by large corporations, who can afford to abide by them, limiting competition from small businesses. Here in NW Minnesota I see it daily trying to run a small ag business. We need to open the field for small businesses–especially farms–so we can improve our self-sustainability and increase food security. Putting all of our eggs into the major producers isn’t sustainable.

DRIVE EDUCATION AT THE LOCAL LEVEL
Education requirements should be determined by school boards at a local level, where parents can take part in the conversation. Different areas have different cultures and different learning styles and environments. Local districts need the flexibility to address the needs of their communities.

LIMIT SPENDING TO DECREASE TAXES
The spending of the $20 billion dollar surplus, treating it as if it were lottery winnings, as opposed to money taken from the labor of its constituents, was wrong. A greater portion of that money should have been returned to the people as opposed to investing in pet infrastructure projects.  Those projects will result in increased taxes to maintain that infrastructure for years to come.

MAINTAIN PROPERTY RIGHTS
Your property should be yours, and yours alone. Governmental property control should be severely limited, so long as you are not causing harm to another. I am against civil asset forfeiture and eminent domain, especially when it is used to benefit private companies. I would push for legislation that would restrict eminent domain’s public use clause to specify public infrastructure only in Minnesota. I would also move to restrict the use of auctioned police-confiscated property when it doesn’t benefit the police department, and instead direct those funds to support other critical efforts such as addressing drug addiction, mental health, and public food shelves.

2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS
The 2nd Amendment allows us the right to bear arms without infringement. It provides for our security, and is what keeps our Government honest. It was not added to the constitution to simply allow us to hunt, but to defend ourselves–our property, our rights, and our country. I am a rock solid supporter of the second amendment.

ELIMINATE DISCRIMINATION
Discrimination, in any form, is abhorrent and against the principles that this country was founded on. The Government should have no policy that discriminates against anyone for any reason. Government should never favor any group, but we must also ensure that our obligations to treaties are honored.

ACCOUNTABILITY
No member of our society is beyond question, though we should give some benefit of the doubt to those who choose to serve the public.  No one group is beyond reproach. The founders of this country instituted a series of checks and balances to every part of our government and the same should carry through our local governments. Those in the public trust are given a great deal of authority. When that authority is abused ,and trust is violated, the punishments should be severe, AFTER due process.

"NEVER AGAIN" BILL

The Governor should never have a blank check to place the state under emergency lockdowns without the approval of the legislature.  This bill will prevent this from happening, instead putting the responsibility on the people's representatives, the state legislature.  If an emergency were to be established, it would need to be renewed by the legislature by a 2/3rds margin, continuing every thirty days or it would automatically end.

PROHIBIT VACCINE & MASK MANDATES FOR PRIVATE CITIZENS & BUSINESSES

The Government should not have the ability to force you to vaccinate yourself or force businesses to put mask or vaccine mandates in place.  A private business should be free to do this on their own. They have the same freedom of association as you do, and the government should not place any undue influence on those businesses to do so.

TERM LIMITS
Power has a tendency to corrupt, which is why I am a strong advocate of term limits. If you choose to elect me as your representative, I expect that you will keep me accountable, as a part of the checks and balances system.
